3 Types of FSSAI

Choose the Right FSSAI License Type

FSSAI licensing is mainly categorized into 3 types based on turnover, scale, and business nature.

1. Basic FSSAI Registration

Generally for petty food businesses with annual turnover up to Rs. 12 lakh.

Suitable for small retailers, petty manufacturers, home food operators, temporary stalls, and very small units starting operations.

2. State FSSAI License

Generally for businesses with turnover above Rs. 12 lakh and up to Rs. 20 crore.

Suitable for medium food businesses such as restaurants, medium manufacturers, transporters, marketers, and distributors operating within a state.

3. Central FSSAI License

Generally for businesses with turnover above Rs. 20 crore or with large-scale/specific operations.

Required for large manufacturers, importers/exporters, e-commerce food operators, and businesses operating across multiple states under central jurisdiction.
